Beyond HR: Embracing Tech to Shape the Future of Work.
I am Favour Orevaoghene Emezana, a seasoned HR professional with 9 years of experience. I’ve led HR initiatives at Reposebay, NXT Tech, and BCBG MAX AZRIA, focusing on talent acquisition, policy formulation, and organizational development.
I found out about the Women Techsters Bootcamp training through word of mouth. My decision to apply came from a desire to explore new horizons and broaden my skill set beyond traditional HR practices. The engaging curriculum, supportive community, and hands-on learning made each session an enriching journey, unlocking new possibilities and shaping my vision for the future. The impactful lessons inspired me to go deeper into the technology landscape.
Tech4Dev has been instrumental in propelling my career forward. The training provided valuable insights and skills in Product Management, bridging my HR background with the dynamic tech landscape. This expanded my professional horizons, positioning me as a versatile professional at the intersection of people and technology.
I’ve acquired skills crucial in Product Management, including product strategy, market research, UX design, agile methodology, communication, project management, prototyping, stakeholder management, and risk management. These skills help me navigate the complex landscape of product management successfully.
This program equipped me with skills to integrate my HR expertise seamlessly into the tech landscape. My dream is to bridge the gap between people and tech, envisioning an HR tech consulting firm that provides virtual HR solutions to streamline and customize HR processes for organizations.
Graduating from the Women Techsters Bootcamp Cohort 3.2 program made me realize the empowering influence of tech. I realized the dedication and resilience invested in this journey. It’s a moment that encapsulates not just the knowledge gained but the commitment that brought me here, affirming my path in the dynamic world of technology. It motivated me to explore its potential further, recognizing that technology can revolutionize HR practices, making them more accessible and impactful.
One significant challenge in my tech journey was deciding whether to make a clean break from my nine years in HR or find a way to combine them with the tech realm. It felt like standing at a crossroads, torn between the comfort of HR and the excitement of the tech world. Deciding whether to integrate my HR background into tech has been a tough but crucial decision in this transformative journey.
Reflecting on the gap between traditional HR practices and the evolving tech landscape, I realized that many HR professionals lean towards traditional methods. This sparked inspiration to bridge this gap, aiming to integrate tech into HR practices for maximum efficiency and empowerment.
My next step is to leverage my training to bridge the gap between people and tech. I plan to apply Product Management principles to enhance HR practices and seek opportunities to collaborate with tech professionals. I aim to stay engaged with the Tech4Dev community, participating in forums and networking events, to continually expand my knowledge and contribute to the tech landscape.
My advice for anyone considering a career in tech is to “embrace curiosity and continuous learning. Stay open to exploring new areas and tools, build a strong foundation through hands-on experiences, and collaborate with others in the tech community. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes — they’re valuable learning opportunities. Network, connect with professionals, and seek mentorship. Believe in your ability to adapt and grow; the tech landscape is vast, and your journey will be uniquely yours.”
