Chemistry Student Cracks Coding— Akanni Hannah Ibukun
Akanni Hannah Ibukun is not your average chemistry student. While most of her peers are engrossed in molecular structures and chemical equations, Akanni is breaking the mould by balancing a demanding Materials Science and Engineering degree at OAU with a passion for coding. She’s an inspiring testament to the power of curiosity and determination. How did she do it? Keep reading to find out!
My name is Akanni Hannah Ibukun, a front-end developer from Sokoto State. It might sound unusual, but I’m a Materials Science and Engineering student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, in the middle of my finals! Yep, you heard it right. I’m juggling code and chemistry, trying to make sense of it all.
I come from a family of six — I’m the second of four kids. My parents are civil servants, and we’re originally from Oyo State.
I stumbled upon the Digital for All Challenge 2.0 on Facebook. Something about it clicked, it felt like a chance to break free from the ordinary and dive into something entirely new. I jumped in, headfirst, and started learning everything I could.
The Digital for All Challenge has been a game-changer. I’ve picked up some serious web development skills, building fast, user-friendly websites that look good and are secure. I’ve learned how to structure content, style pages, and create those interactive elements that make websites fun, and let’s not forget about the backend stuff — databases and security.
I’m excited to put what I’ve learned into action. I plan to build cool projects, try out new tech, and share my knowledge with others. I want to stay ahead of the game, solve problems, and make a real difference in my tech field.
I’m eager to apply the skills and knowledge gained during the training and collaborate with others to solve real-world problems. I expect to immerse myself in a dynamic and interactive environment where I can practically apply my skills, exchange ideas with peers, and develop innovative solutions to complex challenges. I’m looking forward to receiving constructive feedback, learning from others, and growing both personally and professionally.
Now, I’m super pumped about the Challenge Phase because I know the Challenge Phase will offer unique opportunities for me to simulate real-world scenarios, build my creativity, and drive meaningful impact.
My advice to everyone is that if you’re thinking about joining the DFA 2.0 Challenge, just do it! It’s an amazing opportunity to learn new skills, meet awesome people, and boost your career. Don’t miss out on this chance to upskill and reskill in a rapidly changing digital landscape. Embrace the challenge, be open to learning, and get ready to unlock new possibilities!
