Chidera’s Uncoventional Journey: Biochemistry to Design
My name is Chidera Agudosi, and I am a resident of Abuja. I graduated from the University with a 4.41 CGPA in Biochemistry. During my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), I decided to learn fashion design to avoid desperate job hunting after NYSC. However, I realized my strong interest in design and spoke to a friend who is working in technology as a developer. He encouraged me to venture into UI/UX Design, believing in my determination to self-learn. During this time, my sister informed me about the Women Techsters Bootcamp training and I applied.
My transition into tech was as a result of a strong desire to earn more and keep myself busy, and I take pride in every moment of my tech journey. I started learning UI/UX solo in February last year, and I am proud of how far I’ve come. When I applied for the Women Techsters Bootcamp, my main objective was to learn User Research/UX, and the training was extremely beneficial.
One of the highlights of the training for me was the opportunity to be an assistant group leader and work with a supportive and interactive team. One of the biggest challenges I faced was balancing the classes with my work. However, I managed to overcome this by watching the recorded sessions from the live classes. While the training was demanding, I learned a lot from it. Throughout the training, I gained knowledge about UI/UX, Wireframes, prototyping, and more. I also appreciated the guidance provided by the facilitators, who ensured that we behaved well and received quality knowledge.
Currently, I am working as a Product Designer at Tensfer. In this role, I apply my background in biochemistry and expertise in UI/UX to create user-centered products that solve real-world problems. I collaborate closely with developers and project managers to ensure the successful implementation of attractive, accessible, and user-friendly designs that meet user needs. My creativity and problem-solving skills are put to use as I define interaction models, evaluate their effectiveness, and utilize data and user feedback to inform design decisions. Additionally, I conduct concept and usability testing, leveraging user feedback to inform iterative design and development. I am genuinely passionate about designing products that make a difference.
Looking ahead, I intend to further expand my knowledge by taking a course in motion graphics.
