Elizabeth’s Budding Interest in Cybersecurity
Obisanya Obashola Elizabeth, a graduate of Mass Communication working in the banking sector in Nigeria, has always harbored a deep fascination for computers and their inner workings. This interest was further ignited by witnessing numerous individuals fall victim to online fraudsters within the banking industry. Motivated by her desire to combat cyber threats, Obashola made the decision to transition into the world of technology.
It was through a colleague’s page that she discovered the Women Techsters Bootcamp Cohort 2.6 training opportunity. Eager to pursue her aspirations, she promptly applied and embarked on an enlightening journey into Cybersecurity. Initially, the complex terms and processes proved challenging for her to comprehend. However, she adopted a methodical approach, breaking them down into simpler terms and proceeding at a steady pace. Utilizing online videos for visual guidance, Obashola gradually grasped the concepts with growing confidence.
A pivotal moment in her training happened when she successfully hid a file using ubuntu, evoking a sense of pride in her abilities. Throughout the course, Obashola acquired knowledge in various aspects of cybersecurity, covering topics such as file hashing, phishing URLs, operating systems and virtual machines, network security control, risk identification and management, as well as malware prevention and security incident handling and response.
Obashola is grateful to her facilitator, David Kangara, for his exceptional guidance and friendly demeanor. He patiently addressed even the most mundane questions, proving to be an invaluable support throughout the training. Leveraging the knowledge acquired, Obashola has been able to implement cybersecurity practices to enhance her current job role as a Banker.
Looking toward the future, Obashola aspires to secure an internship that will further advance her career as a cybersecurity expert. She expresses gratitude to Tech4Dev for providing her with this invaluable opportunity to expand her knowledge and skills in a field she is truly passionate about.
