My name is Saidat Shittu, a branding and communication specialist based in Lagos, Nigeria. I come from a family of five, being the youngest of three siblings. My mother works as a nurse, while my father has passed away. Originally from Ekiti state, I was raised in Lagos. I hold a degree in Philosophy from the University of Lagos.

I ventured into tech out of curiosity, further fueled by a conversation with a colleague. I found out about the Women Techsters Fellowship training through a colleague at work. Knowing my interest in immersing myself in technology, she shared the registration link with me, I applied and got into the Product management learning track. I dedicated myself to learning beyond the curriculum because it became very interesting to me, and that’s how my tech journey began.

The Women Techsters fellowship training provided an excellent foundation for me. Throughout the training, I acquired valuable skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication through soft skills training. I was also fortunate to have an amazing facilitator and fantastic teammates.

In my own case, balancing work with the Women Techsters Fellowship training has been a significant challenge. It was not an easy experience, and sincerely, I wanted to give up many times. However, I have a great support system; my mentor, my family, and the other women in the program who have been supportive and shown me resilience through their determination.

Participating in the Women Techsters Program has greatly advanced my career and significantly improved my economic situation and financial independence. By enhancing my skills and employability, I’ve gained access to better job opportunities and increased earning potential, allowing me to support my family.

I currently work as a Product Manager with Chow Noodles Bar. Moving forward, I plan to maximize the knowledge gained during the training by applying it directly to my current role as a Product Manager at Chow Noodles Bar.

I’ll implement best practices and innovative strategies learned to improve our products and processes. Additionally, I’ll continue to build on these skills through ongoing education and by staying engaged with the tech community.

My advice for those considering a career in tech is “to dive in with curiosity and a willingness to learn. The tech industry is dynamic and ever-evolving, so embrace continuous learning and stay updated with the latest trends. Don’t be afraid to start small and build your skills gradually. Surround yourself with a supportive network, seek mentors, and don’t hesitate to ask for help.”
