My name is Angela Ugwu, a graduate of Agricultural Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I am from a family of 7 and the 3rd born of five children. I am an entrepreneur based in Abuja.

Growing up, I have always had a flair for numbers and then during the COVID-19 lockdown period, I enrolled for a free Coursera course on “Introduction to Excel.” I was very passionate about every session, and it piqued my interest and this was how my journey into technology started. Since then, I have taken a couple of free courses online and watched some YouTube videos and I will continue learning until my goal is achieved and beyond.

I found out about the Women Techsters Bootcamp program through a post my cousin made about her admission to the 3.3 cohort. I reached out and asked her to share the link for the next cohort whenever it was out. She did, I applied and I was lucky to be selected for the 3.4 cohort in the Data Analysis learning track.

The Women Techsters Bootcamp program provided me with the essential knowledge and skills needed as a foundation in the Data Analysis career path. During the training, I acquired valuable and in-demand skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, attention to detail, teamwork, in addition to technical skills like data cleaning, working with Excel, Power BI etc.

My facilitator was amazing and thorough, even though we had limited time, he made sure everyone was carried along. Balancing the Women Techsters Bootcamp program, my work and business was very challenging, coupled with light and network issues in Nigeria and at one point, I got frustrated and wanted to give up, but I kept telling myself that there were people who were doing it regardless, so I set my “eyes on the goal”. I also had the support of great friends throughout the program that kept me going.

The Women Techsters Bootcamp program has helped lay a foundation for me on my career path and I look forward to an exciting journey. It has equipped me with essential knowledge and skills and has improved my employability and earning potential.

I presently work as a project assistant in a media firm, and my job output has really improved. It has also helped me in studying insights from my business online to make some decisions. I will continue to advance my learning while I look for internship role and entry-level opportunities in a data analysis role to hone my skills.

Thank you so much, Tech4Dev for the amazing opportunity.
