How I landed 2 jobs after the EMMI Digital Skills training in Delta State
My name is Kingsley Onwubuya, and I live in Abuja, Nigeria. I have a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Information Technology. Growing up, I have always loved technology; my greatest motivation is solving problems and impacting knowledge. I hope to provide solutions that can help alleviate the educational lapses in Nigeria, Africa, and the world at large.
My Tech4Dev Story is a unique one. I knew absolutely nobody in Tech4Dev, nor have I met someone who has attended their program. I was surfing the web for Software Development internships, and google suggested the Delta State EMMI program. I looked it up and registered for the Software development learning track. From then on, it has been uphill. The training was excellent, and the experience will live long in my memory.
The training was exceptional, from the planning and teaching to the curriculum and delivery. The virtual learning approach of the organization allowed for flexibility and dedication without the majority of daily distractions.
A couple of things stood out for me during the training: the smooth onboarding process, the curriculum, and, most significantly, the patience and brilliance of the software development instructor (Mr. Daniel). The training taught me about HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Vanilla JavaScript, ReactJS, and Git.
I have been in the Managed IT Service sector for years, but the EMMI Program has influenced my decision to change to the software development sector. I was too scared to follow the Software development career path for a decade now but not anymore.
The training has opened multiple doors as I have gotten 2 Job offers, a possible promotion if I chose to stay with the old employer, and personal remote jobs, amongst others. Moving forward, I hope to offer solutions to help solve problems while providing professional services to clients.
I aim to maximize the knowledge gained from the training by Upskilling to Backend development and DevOps. My advice to others hoping to start the tech journey is “Start today and start with Tech4Dev.”
I am so grateful for this opportunities, and the doors it opened for me.
