How women Techsters Bootcamp exceeded my expectations
I am Eniola Leshi, a 500-level Medical Biochemistry student at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo state, based in Ogun state, Nigeria.
I am a health tech and metaverse enthusiast deeply interested in developing and creating products that ultimately improve the healthcare services and systems of the world.
I have always been a big fan of Tech4Dev and their work. I have always viewed Tech4Dev as an outstanding community of change-makers in Nigeria, and it seemed as though everywhere I turned, there was always someone raving about Tech4Dev. I desperately wanted to be a part of it, but the timing was never right.
Recently, I stumbled on a flier for the Bootcamp reposted by a connection on LinkedIn. I jumped at the opportunity and applied for the product management learning track. Thankfully, I got in, and the Women Techsters Bootcamp training experience exceeded my imagination.
It was way beyond my expectations. I have attended numerous training, but this has been my best learning experience. I was initially skeptical about attending my classes, especially since it was virtual, but the first day of training came, and I was blown away in a good way.
Tech4Dev was very deliberate in ensuring that our learning experience was smooth. My facilitator was the absolute best; she took her time taking us through every lesson. The curriculum was packed and comprehensive too.
My highlight of the training would be the classes and the real-life projects we were opportune to work on during the training. These projects gave me a glimpse into what the practical workplace would look and feel like, and as a bonus, I had the best teammates. I am grateful to network with outstanding and like-minded women like me.
During the training, I learned so much. For instance, I was able to familiarize myself with concepts and tools like Agile methodologies, Microsoft PowerPoint, Asana, and soft skills, amongst others.
I fondly remember Mrs. Theodora Isola, my learning track’s facilitator. She was patient with all our questions, never rushed her teaching, and went over and beyond to ensure that we got the best learning experience.
The Bootcamp training has helped me to be more driven toward my field. My knowledge of product management has significantly evolved. I am convinced more than ever that I want to pursue a career in product management and even go ahead to become one of the best product managers, even though it is a rapidly changing field.
The training has given me the confidence to put myself out there and apply for internships and other opportunities. It has also assisted me in adding more relevant skills to my portfolio.
I plan to maximize my training knowledge by continually practicing and honing my skills. Moving forward, I intend to work on more projects and products and use the knowledge gained to build my own products.
My advice to other young women like myself is, “It is never too late to begin a career. You shouldn’t fail to pursue a career in tech because you feel like everyone is doing it, and you also shouldn’t start because everyone is doing it. Discover your passion and build on it.
Thank you so much, Tech4Dev, for the opportunity to be a part of the Bootcamp training.
