Jemimah, a Women Techsters Fellow from Mombasa, Kenya.

Jemimah Chepyego was born and raised in Mombasa, Kenya. Her interest in technology started in high school when she studied Computer as a subject. Her curiosity to learn more about technology pushed her to apply for a course in Bachelor of Science in Information Technology in 2016 and this marked the beginning of her tech journey into Software Development.

Jemimah aspires to be a data Engineer in the future which is her long-term goal. Speaking about her tech journey, Jemimah said, “My tech journey has been an amazing experience so far.” Jemimah is motivated by the ability to build products that solve people’s problems and by the fact that tech provides that platform where you can transform your ideas into actual solutions/products.

Jemimah’s first encounter with the Women Techsters program was in 2021 when she applied for the first cohort of the Fellowship but unfortunately, she didn’t get in. She didn’t let this rejection discourage her from the strong desire she had to improve her Frontend skills and learn more about Frontend technologies and so, when the application for the second cohort of the Women Techsters Fellowship opened, she didn’t hesitate to apply and thankfully, she got in.

When asked to recount her proudest moment on the Women Techsters Fellowship program, Jemimah mentioned that being able to work with design tools like Figma to build her designs into actual websites gladdens her heart. She didn’t forget to add that she has now effectively mastered the use of these design tools knowing what to do with each of them.

Speaking about the challenges she faced on the program and how she overcame them, she said, “One of the challenges I have had to deal with is Imposter Syndrome. I was able to overcome this challenge by listening to people who are ahead of me in tech and learning from the challenges they faced and their advice to junior developers.”

Jemima also didn’t hesitate to mention how helpful Tech4Dev has been in contributing to her career growth, as she can now build professional websites using design tools like Figma.

While describing her experience on the program, Jemimah mentioned that her highlight of the training was the soft skill classes. She spoke about how helpful, understanding and extremely patient her facilitator, Mr. Innocent, was and how he has been a major support system for her in the program.

Moving forward, Jemimah hopes to start freelancing as she builds her startup. She is also planning to apply for a Master’s program to further her studies.
