Leveraging the Women Techsters Fellowship for Career Advancement

My name is Lisa Daniel-Obi, and I am a resident of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. I am a beneficiary of the Women Techsters Fellowship Class of 2023 in the Product Design learning track. I hold a B.Sc. in Geography and Environmental Management. My educational background has helped me build a strong passion for environmental sustainability and conservation. My aspiration is to actively contribute to environmental preservation and sustainability efforts, making a positive impact on our planet’s future.

My motivation is rooted in a genuine passion for problem-solving and innovation. My interest in technology began at an early age, as I was naturally drawn to exploring how things work and finding creative solutions to challenges. Over time, I recognized the vast opportunities that the tech industry provides in terms of contributing to meaningful advancements, creating impactful solutions, and being part of an ever-evolving field that shapes the future. The fast-paced and dynamic nature of technology, along with the potential to make a positive difference in the world, has been a driving force in my decision to pursue a career in this field. It’s the perfect outlet for my curiosity and desire to have a lasting impact on the world through technological innovation.

I came across the Women Techsters Fellowship training program on Facebook and applied to learn and contribute to meaningful projects. The experience was a mix of challenges and rewards. Challenges involved time management and self-doubt, but I overcame them with dedication and support from mentors. The mentorship and guidance I received through the program were instrumental in my professional development. My mentors provided valuable insights, advice, and support, which helped me navigate challenges and make informed decisions in my career. Their guidance not only boosted my confidence but also contributed significantly to my growth and success in my chosen field.

My participation in the program has improved my economic situation and financial independence by enhancing my skills and employability. I’ve gained access to better job opportunities and increased earning potential, which has positively impacted my financial stability. This newfound economic independence has provided greater confidence in managing my financial future. Since joining the program, one significant milestone in my career journey has been successfully launching my own freelance business. The skills and knowledge I acquired through the program not only boosted my expertise but also gave me the confidence to offer my services to a wider client base. This step has allowed me to enjoy the flexibility of being my own boss while significantly increasing my income.

Securing a major contract with a prominent client was a major win for me because it not only provided a substantial financial boost but also raised my professional profile. This accomplishment validated the value of the program and the skills I acquired, reinforcing my commitment to continued growth and success in my career and entrepreneurial journey. The program has enhanced my technical proficiency, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability. The practical experience and networking opportunities have accelerated my professional growth and allowed me to excel in my chosen career path.

The Women Techsters Fellowship program has ignited a passion for lifelong learning and giving back, and I’m excited about the possibilities ahead.

Currently, I work at Cen Global Services as a web developer. In my role, I’m responsible for designing and developing web applications and websites. This position has significantly improved my earning power. The skills I’ve gained in web development through my role at Cen Global Services have opened doors to higher-paying opportunities and freelance work, ultimately increasing my income and financial stability.

With a solid foundation and a growing network, I anticipate more career opportunities, higher earning potential, and the ability to invest in ventures that will secure my financial independence and allow me to pursue my financial goals.
