Mariamawet Brehanu is a Civil Engineer based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She has her master’s degree in Road and Transport Engineering, with over ten years of experience working in the field.

Mariamawet has always been enthusiastic about technology. Her mind always drifted to getting tech solutions to simplify daily tasks, and the Women Techsters Fellowship opportunity came to her at the point when she was very interested in learning about Data Science.

One of her proudest moments was getting into the Fellowship, believing in herself and not giving up despite the many challenges.

When asked how she feels about the training, she said “I am more than glad to have joined the training and I aspire to work and contribute tech solutions in Government offices, Health offices, Hospitals etc. The training has been great so far. I have seen my potentials through it. “

Mariamawet mentioned that her proudest moments would be the fact that she believed in herself to join the training and not giving up despite the challenges and also the fact that she has been able to work on interesting projects while simultaneously handling other engagements in her life.

For her, the tech journey gets challenging sometimes but she has been able to overcome this challenge through constant practice and dedicating extra hours to studying.

Mariamawet recounts that she was first learning Google Data Analytics because she was already interested in Tech while working as a road Engineer, however, she stumbled on the advertisement of Women Techsters on Facebook while she was still learning about Google data analytics and she decided to go for it.

When asked whether or not Tech4Dev has helped contribute to her career growth, she said, “The experience I got during the training was more than I expected, with series of teachings.”

She describes her highlight of the training as the knowledge gained on Coding and Data retrieving, Use of Python, Power BI, SQL etc. Speaking about her facilitator, Mariamawet describes her facilitator, Miss Kawthar as “Excellence with Patience.”

Moving forward, Mariamawet would like to go on an internship right after graduation so as to work and gain first-hand experience, and we couldn’t agree more.

When asked what her advice for other women looking to go into tech is, she said “My advice to other women looking to transition into tech is “It is not as hard as you think.”
