Meet Reham Beltag: Engineer, Designer, Educator, Mentor, and Fellow

Reham Beltag is a Women Techsters Fellow from Egypt with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, more than five years of experience in Graphic Design, and an interest in Product Design. A woman with many skills. In addition to her Engineering and Design background, she also holds an Education Diploma in teaching. With this knowledge, she has, over time, mentored women interested in entering the technology field.

Currently, she is a mentor at Wentors. Her motivation behind this is her belief that by inspiring and supporting other women, she can help create a more diverse and inclusive tech industry and a more equitable and inclusive world.

Reham started her career in technology in 2018. She got into tech because she developed a passion for the Product Design field, especially concerning web 3.0 and Fintech. Her tech journey has not been easy, but it has been an exciting journey.

One of the challenges she has faced as a woman in tech is the persistent gender pay gap, where women are often paid less than their male counterparts for the same job and level of experience. This experience left her feeling undervalued, frustrated and not seen.

To overcome this challenge, she started seeking mentorship and support from other women in tech who had experienced similar issues. Through these networks, she gained the confidence to negotiate for the salaries she deserved and how to speak up when she felt like she was being undervalued.

In addition to this, she also joined organizations and groups that focused on empowering women in the industry. During this phase, she came across the Women Techsters Fellowship on social media and became part of it.

During the Fellowship, she faced challenges as a woman with many interests, like balancing her work as a Graphic Designer with her goal of learning Product Design and time management. She navigated these challenges by developing a routine that has made her schedule more efficient.

She discovered that one fantastic time management hack is taking breaks. As Ironic as this seems, taking breaks helps her clear her mind and train it to focus on one task at a time, and realizing this helped her overcome her challenge of time management.

Despite the challenges, Reham has recorded many proud moments in her Women Techsters Fellowship journey. One was her being selected as one of the North African Representatives for Women Techsters. As a representative, she had the opportunity to work alongside other leaders in the Fellowship to positively impact the tech industry and help other women during the Fellowship.

Another time, she was chosen as a project team leader to guide and assist her team during the learning process. This experience gave her insights into leadership skills and allowed her to help others learn and grow in their tech journey.

Her proudest moment was the Tech Girl Advocacy drive, where she had the opportunity to give back to the community by helping young girls in her community learn about the tech industry and share her experiences with them.

Overall, the Women Techsters Fellowship program equipped her with the knowledge she needed to build her skills and network in the Product Design field, and the confidence to pursue a career in tech. The program also allowed her to collaborate with other women in tech, which allowed her to get support from experienced professionals in the field.

The knowledge and skills learned in the Fellowship have helped her better understand the industry and what it takes to succeed as a Product Designer and have been instrumental in helping her progress in her career as a Product Designer.

Her facilitator, Mona Elgharib, and the Women Techsters Team members Toyin, the Programs Associate; Blessing, the Programs Lead; and Ojonoka, the Placement Lead, were very helpful in ensuring that her life and that of every other lady in the Women Techsters Fellowship were significantly impacted.

After the Fellowship, Reham plans to maximize the knowledge gained during the training by continuously practicing and refining her skills in Product Design, UI/UX, and web 3.0 technologies. She is currently actively seeking opportunities to practice all she has learned in the course of the Fellowship.
