My name is Khadijat Agboola, and I am a first-class graduate of Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Lagos. I graduated in 2016, and since then, I have been working as a teacher until August 2023. After graduation, I applied to a big insurance company and was invited for an aptitude test, which I passed. However, due to my choice to wear a long hijab, I was unable to pursue a career in that field. This experience led to imposter syndrome setting in, and I felt hesitant to apply for any other jobs, fearing that I wouldn’t be accepted. I decided I wanted to switch to a career that doesn’t discriminate and would allow me to work remotely. My aspiration is to become a Chief Programming Officer in the future.

Last year, I made the decision to venture into tech to explore more career opportunities. A friend mentioned the Women Techsters Fellowship class of 2024 application, and she encouraged me to apply. While awaiting the selection process, I started following Tech4Dev on Instagram and discovered other programs they offered, including the Women Techsters Bootcamp. I applied for Bootcamp cohort 2.7 and was selected for the Data Analysis learning track. I also attended numerous webinars organized by Tech4Dev. Later on, I was fortunate to be chosen for the Women Techsters Fellowship in the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence learning track.

My tech journey has been both intriguing and challenging. Being a mother of two boys, juggling learning, teaching, and taking care of my family has been incredibly challenging. However, I have managed to overcome these obstacles through determination and dedication.

The knowledge I have gained from the Women Techsters Bootcamp has greatly aided my career progression. I remember Clifford Frempong being an excellent teacher, and my current facilitator, Kosisochukwu Ashar, has been extremely helpful in guiding me through my tech journey. My plan is to finish the Fellowship class strongly and become fully equipped with data science knowledge.

Currently, I am utilising the knowledge and skills gained through the Women Techsters program in my role as a Clinical Programmer at Clinfocus.
