Tolulope’s Journey into Data Analysis
My name is Atanda Tolulope and I’m a Nigerian based in Lagos State. I grew up in Lagos, and have lived here all my life. My aspiration is to become a successful Data Analyst. My introduction to data analysis came through working with my mother, who runs a distribution business. In managing the shop, I was responsible for maintaining various record books, including daily sales, ledger, cash, and stock take books. It was through analyzing this data that I gained valuable insights, such as identifying the fastest-selling products and making informed purchasing decisions.
This experience deeply motivated me to expand my knowledge in the field of Data Analysis, so that I can make meaningful impact not only on my mother’s business but also on other women entrepreneurs like her. I believe that by equipping women with data-driven decision-making skills, we can empower them to navigate their businesses more effectively and achieve greater success.
I found out about the Women Techsters Bootcamp training through my LinkedIn account, and I got into the Data Science & Artificial Intelligence learning track. The learning experience was wholesome. I was also privileged to meet different people from different places, coming together to learn and rub minds.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned during this Bootcamp experience was the power of teamwork. Observing the behaviour and work styles of my colleagues, I discovered that we were all striving towards a common goal. By actively participating in team projects and collaborating with others, I not only expanded my own skill set but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and mutual growth. Together, we could overcome challenges more effectively and achieve greater success.
Through this journey, I discovered hidden strengths within myself. I learned that I possessed the courage to face challenges head-on, even when doubts clouded my mind. By pushing myself out of my comfort zone, I realized that I could adapt to new situations and embrace change. This newfound self-awareness empowered me to take on further challenges confidently and determinedly.
The training has helped me make progress in my career in the cases of sharing reports and presenting them. I can also now tell a story with proper visualization of data.
My facilitators especially Mr. Clifford did a really good job and what I loved most about them is how they would always repeat themselves just so everyone in class could properly understand what was being taught in class.
Moving on, I’m looking into gaining more knowledge because like they say, it never runs out. I plan to use all knowledge gained during the training to enhance my career and also my education.
Currently, I work at Multipro Consumer Products Limited as a Graduate Trainee under the DTE (Digital Transformation Executive). My role entails interacting with Salesmen, their line managers, and other Stakeholders to generate, analyze reports, and swiftly correct any issues on the SFA tool, Power BI, and other software used in the organization.
My advice to other women looking to transition into tech is to start by exploring different tech fields and finding what interests them the most. Then, focus on building your skills through online courses, coding boot camps, or even pursuing a degree in a relevant field. Networking and connecting with professionals in the industry can also help you gain valuable insights and opportunities. Don’t be afraid to take on side projects or internships to gain practical experience. Always stay curious and open to learning new technologies and staying up-to-date with industry trends.
I would like to say thank you to Tech4Dev for this amazing opportunity.
